David Van is a Liberal Senator for Victoria.
David was born and raised in Melbourne’s bayside suburbs and developed a passion for the water and the outdoors from an early age. A passion that exists still in his love for diving, sailing, mountain biking and skiing. Earning a degree in horticulture also gave him knowledge and respect for the natural environment.
David runs a small business, where he has worked on some of the biggest crises in Australia. He has advised clients in Royal Commissions and other Government inquiries. His career started in Australia, but his unique experience and approach to solving reputational problems led him to working around the world.
Living in St Kilda with its diverse, rich but at times challenging culture, David works tirelessly to improve the lives of residents, tenants and traders. David has been a strong advocate to improve the lives of the homeless and those in social or public housing, holding the State Government to account for failing people in need.
David believes strongly that the best way to improve people’s lives is to give them the ‘dignity of work’ in secure, well paid, safe jobs. As a small business owner, he has a passion for helping other small businesses overcome the many hurdles put in their way. Small businesses are the engine room of the Australian economy and enabling them to thrive with lower taxes, less red tape and more opportunity is the best way to give more Australians a secure future.
