Danny Frawley Centre
Senator for Victoria, David Van has today welcomed the Morrison Government’s announcement of $8.5 million towards the Danny Frawley Centre.
The Danny Frawley Centre will be situated at the St Kilda Football Club headquarters in Moorabbin and will promote mental and physical wellbeing in the community, as well as support people living with mental health conditions across Melbourne’s south east.
Senator Van said the centre would provide a hub for sport, community, health and mental health organisations to engage with the local community.
“Mental health and suicide prevention are amongst the highest priorities of the Morrison Government, which is why we are delivering improved services here in South East Melbourne,” Senator Van said.
Prior to his passing last year, Danny Frawley and the club had been working towards this project to give the local community somewhere their physical and mental health could be front and centre.
With co-investments from the state government and philanthropy, the Morrison Government is helping to pave the way to make Danny’s vision a reality, furthering the legacy of the former St Kilda football club captain and Richmond football club coach.
The Danny Frawley centre will include spaces for consulting suites, meeting rooms, shared workspaces and community classrooms as well as large multi-purpose areas. The Centre will offer free and paid programs with an aim of promoting physical and mental health.
“The establishment of the Danny Frawley Centre is an important physical and mental health initiative for south east Melbournians and will ensure that Danny’s legacy lives on,” Senator Van said.
Today’s announcement builds on the unprecedented $5.7b investment by the Morrison Government in mental health initiatives in the 2020-21 Budget.
Work is ready to commence on the Danny Frawley Centre, which will be built, operated and managed by the St Kilda Football Club.
The Morrison Government’s contribution will be funded from the Community Development Grants Programme.
