Statement on the tragic loss of four on-duty Victorian Police officers

I am profoundly saddened to hear of the passing away of four Victorian police officers.

Every day our policemen and women put on their uniforms in service of the Victorian community.

This afternoon four families said goodbye to their loved ones when they left for work; tonight they will not return. The pain, loss and sadness which their families and friends are experiencing right now brings a deep sense of sadness and grief to us all.

Our commitment to the families and to the Victorian police community is to ensure that these brave men and women who died in the service of our state are not forgotten.

They have made the ultimate sacrifice and contribution to our community and for that they will forever be remembered as heroes. May perpetual light shine upon them.
