Veteran health and wellbeing funding

Local programs and activities that support the health and wellbeing of veterans and their families across South East Melbourne received a funding boost under the latest round of the Federal Government’s Veteran and Community Grants (V&CG) program.

“I congratulate South Eastern Group of Melbourne Legacy in Dandenong North, who received $4,000, and Whirlybird Day Club in Hallam, who received $6,500 under this latest round of funding. I thank these organisations for the essential support they continue to provide our local communities,” Senator for Victoria, David Van said.

“Our community organisations, ex-service organisations and other local veterans groups provide valuable services and support to veterans and their families, and this funding will help them to further improve these services.

“Veterans and their families across South East Melbourne will benefit from these programs and I encourage them to get involved by reaching out to one of these organisations.”

Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, Darren Chester, said more than $470,000 in funding has been announced for 28 projects under the latest round of the V&CG program.

“Bringing veterans and their families together through local programs is a great way for veterans to engage in social activities and bond with other veterans who share similar life experiences from the time they served and in civilian life,” Mr Chester said.

“The funding will also go towards the development of new programs and services to help reduce social isolation and improve mental health by supporting local social events, upgrading existing facilities and providing transportation for veterans to participate in community events.

“This funding not only supports local veterans and their families, but also the local community by supporting local employment and businesses.”
