Safer Communities infrastructure grants announced
Senator for Victoria, David Van today welcomed the announcement of $2.7 million worth of Federal Government investment in South-East Melbourne to provided security infrastructure for places of religious worship.
Senator Van said that this investment in security infrastructure will reduce the fear of crime and contribute to greater community safety and resilience right across South-East Melbourne.
“We all have the right to feel safe.” Senator Van said.
Assistant Minister for Customs, Community Safety and Multicultural Affairs, The Hon Jason Wood MP today announced that eight local South-East projects were successful in receiving funding as part of the Safer Communities Fund round five infrastructure and Northern Territory stream grants.
“These grants are helping to keep our communities safer by boosting the efforts of local councils, schools and pre-schools, places of religious worship and community organisations to address crime and antisocial behaviour in their area,” Assistant Minister Wood said.
“Unfortunately many of the communities successful in receiving funding have experienced a great deal of distress caused by racial and religious intolerance, or other anti-social behaviour, from within their local areas.
“The Safer Communities Fund is delivering on the Government’s commitment to protect local communities by ensuring they have appropriate security infrastructure in place such as CCTV cameras, fencing, and alarm systems.”
