Statement on the Loss of Life of Three Victorians from COVID-19
I was devastated to learn of the passing of three people from COVID-19 in my home state of Victoria over the last 24 hours, marking the first lives lost to coronavirus in Victoria.
My thoughts are with their families and friends at this time of grief and loss, as the wider Australian community grieves for them and alongside them.
Tragically, this brings our national toll to 12 people from coronavirus – all lives touching others in their time, and affecting others through their loss.
I extend my heartfelt condolences to all those impacted by tragedy due to this virus, and re-affirm my belief that we can and we will make it through this pandemic together.
The latest advice is that 520 Victorians have been diagnosed with coronavirus, an increase of 54 cases since yesterday and nine confirmed community transmissions.
Of those 520 Victorians who have been diagnosed, 149 have recovered, 14 are currently being hospitalised and three are in intensive care. More than 26,900 Victorians have now been tested.
Nationally, more than 162,000 Australians have now been tested, and there are around 2,000 confirmed cases.
Australian governments continue to work hard and work together to slow the spread of coronavirus to save lives and protect lives.
We will do all that we can to stand with the Australian community as the community stands shoulder-to-shoulder in the face of this unprecedented challenge.
But for now, we pause, we reflect, and we remember those who we have lost.
